This functionality is in the product to set the offset of the superscripted text. When you are in the Variable Text Editor, you'll want to click on the Paragraph button and then the Global Settings button. In this dialog you will see the controls to set the ratio and offset of the superscripted/subscripted text. The ratio will set the size and the offset moves it up and down. Hope this helps!
