This paper examines the economics of publishing, intellectual property, and
technological possibilities among others. These are factors, in my view,
that affect prospects for the future of the planet.

                        <In a world brimming with new knowledge
                        and new ways to find it, there have appeared
pockets of
                        information poverty and local hardship.

                        Set against this backdrop has been the rapid

technological
                        leaps make it likely that access to scientific
