29Aug97 EU: EU/CIVIL SOCIETY - REFLECTIONS ON THE AMSTERDAM TREATY.
REFLECTION DAYS ON AMSTERDAM TREATY ON 10 SEPTEMBER, ESTATES GENERAL ON
EMPLOYMENT ON 20 NOVEMBER.

Brussels, 28/08/1997 (Agence Europe) - The Permanent Forum on Civil
Society, which, on the initiative of the International European Movement,
brings together some one hundred European non-governmental organizations,
is organizing "Estates General" on employment in Luxembourg on 20
November, before the special EU summit on this subject. On this occasion,
the Forum intends taking a stance in the fight against unemployment,
poverty and social exclusion before this special European Summit, as well
as examining problems relating to the implementation of the "employment"
chapter of the draft Amsterdam Treaty. Among the Forum's other
initiatives, we may also mention that, in the framework of NGOs being
mobilized before the debates on ratification of the amsterdam Treaty in
Member States, a day of reflection is being organized on the new treaty in
Brussels on 10 September, and initiatives will be organized at national
level, with NGO participation, that of Euro-MPs and members of national
parliaments.
