Ray,

What is important is not who owns the Capital, but how did they get it. (By capital I mean the factories and machines – the material wealth used in production.

With some exceptions (magnified by the right) the wherewithal originated in privilege – of which landholding is the most obvious. While the Industrial Revolution was fueled by Land Rents – we now enjoy (sic) an additional 1001 privileges, which munificence is enjoyed even more by those who receive without working – and happily invest.

Devote your attention to causes and you’ll be closer to understanding.

Harry

So is the 1/2 of one per cent going to do all the buying?   Harry should tell us how much of the capital is owned by how much of the population.   That is the area he is always talking about in England.

It's all part of a grander vision.  In the US, working for a living is no longer as important as it once was.  Who does it matters less and less.  Crappy jobs can be done by cheap insourced labour, while expensive jobs can be outsourced overseas.  How are ordinary Americans going to make a living?  Why, by being part of Bush's "ownership society"!  They will own the capital and let others do the work.
