The EU is admitting 3rd world countries -- which is a fine
thing to do --
but that does not transform them into industrial countries.
Cypriot PCI and
other economic indicators leave them in 3rd world status,
IMHO.

I suppose with the retirement of Raouf Denktash, Turkish
Cyprus may follow,
but via the Cypriot or Turkish route?

Increasingly, BTW, I like 3rd world cultures over that of
the West, so I
take little comfort for the Cypriots in their rush toward
European-ness....

Cyprus (the Greek part) is EU, not 3rd world.  Although the
difference is
increasingly hard to tell, I admit.
