Saddam "merely" switched Iraq's oil currency to euros, but Iran wants to switch the whole Middle-East oil trade to euros. That would practically end the role of the dollar as world currency to print at will, so the USA would go bankrupt pretty soon. Now if that isn't a reason to intervene... but who said that ground troops have to be deployed? Now even France has threatened Iran with pre-emptive nuke strikes, after Chirac had made good friends with Sharon.
