Subject: Some questions

As I think I have said on perhaps too many occasions, whether it is in politics, the corporate world, religion or almost any human endeavour, the primary objective and main motivating force is the acquisition, exercise and retention of power. >From my quite close association with several political leaders I became convinced that they purposely cloaked their true ambitions by claiming they are motivated by public service and a few delude themselves to believe this. As you have heard a politicians capacity for punishment is exceeded only by their capacity for applause. Of course smart politicians keep a very close eye on the desires and needs of members of the public and will take action where necessary to retain power and/or influence. The "Invasion" of Parliament by a group of mainly young people was in my view completely unacceptable. Unless we maintain a reasonable level of decorum in speaking out for or against a subject anarchy will eventually ensue. Would you be so tolerant if a group opposed to allowing immigration by specified ethnic or cultural backgrounds, disrupted parliament? I think not. Also please let go the view that all corporations are evil and in effect should not be allowed to lobby. Sure they ask for grants, loans, loan guarantees and special relief from some laws and regulations. Much of my time was spent trying to persuade a Minister to say no and I would point out that in almost all cases, even if they offered to share the results it always meant our share is the profits and your share is the losses. Oh well enough for now. Digby
