Keith,

the curve now dipping over into an exponential decline

If this continues...the present world population of over 7 billion will reach almost 10 billion as we approach 2100

If you think this slowing growth rate and resultant number is good news while admitting
we're already vastly over-populated

perhaps you will explain! Overshoot means that we are consuming 'stocks' of natural wealth (well in excess of 'flows' which decline daily)

see:
http://davidmdelaney.com/overshoot-in-a-nutshell.html

Then you write:
But what about the further future? If, for example, world population reduces sufficiently in the next few decades so that everybody can have the same standard of living as the average person in the West, what will be the world population then? Will it have stabilized, or will it still be declining?

It will be growing from 7B to 9, 10..B Where does "declining" come from? War, Plague, famine...? Or do you refer to the rate of growth declining?

Steve
