No Chris. The note was about the history of smallpox. The comments re: Amaranth were regarding the genetic adaptations that all creatures must develop in this world over thousands of years due to their environmental situations *or die*. Just as some peoples cannot tolerate milk, or build a resistance to diabetes, etc. The ancient tribes may have gained a tolerance to the affects of Amaranth in their own communities and the endemic viral diseases were of lesser consequence to their survival. That does not seem a far stretch from Darwin's theories. Smallpox was a new development, therefore no resistance and the use of Amaranth as a part of the diet may have had little or no consequence in the ensuing pandemic created by the Spanish invasion.

My illogical "context", for you, was in not placing the Baylor University name /after /my comment.
