errr...at the risk of sounding cold, isn't that what we have technology for - to do our work so we have more leisure time?
Perhaps we should be considering the 'future of work' instead of trying to save historical work ideologies. Fortunately, ICTs are spontaneously generating this future whether we like it or not. Once we raise our collective heads out of the sand, it should become apparent that ICTs are creating a new paradigm that is both socially and ecologically sustainable...if only we'd stop trying to prevent that, for example, by thinking of education as work training. --- On Mon, 3/7/11, [email protected] <[email protected]> wrote: From: [email protected] <[email protected]> Subject: [Futurework] NYTimes.com: Degrees and Dollars To: [email protected] Received: Monday, March 7, 2011, 7:57 AM E-Mail This #yiv179357967 footer { font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:10px;color:#000000;} #yiv179357967 td.yiv179357967footer { font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:10px;color:#000000;} #yiv179357967 a.yiv179357967footer { font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:10px;color:#000066;} #yiv179357967 font.yiv179357967emailHeader { font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:13px;color:#CC6633;font-weight:bold;padding-bottom:4px;} #yiv179357967 bgc1 { background-color:#F5F4F4;} #yiv179357967 td.yiv179357967bgc1 { background-color:#F5F4F4;} #yiv179357967 bgc2 { background-color:#F8F8F8;} #yiv179357967 td.yiv179357967bgc2 { background-color:#F8F8F8;} #yiv179357967 copy { font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:12px;} #yiv179357967 td.yiv179357967bodycopy { font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:12px;} #yiv179357967 a.yiv179357967bodycopy { font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:12px;color:#000066;} #yiv179357967 small { font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:11px;} #yiv179357967 td.yiv179357967small { font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:11px;} #yiv179357967 a.yiv179357967small { font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:11px;color:#000066;} #yiv179357967 advertisement { font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:9px;color:#999999;} #yiv179357967 td.yiv179357967advertisement { font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:9px;color:#999999;} #yiv179357967 a.yiv179357967advertisement { font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:9px;color:#000066;} #yiv179357967 contextadbg { border-top:1px solid #BFBFBF;border-bottom:1px solid #BFBFBF;margin-bottom:3px;} #yiv179357967 contextadheader { font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;color:#98BC61;font-size:11px;font-weight:bold;} #yiv179357967 contextaddisclaimer { font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;color:#999999;font-size:10px;padding-bottom:8px;} #yiv179357967 contextadtext { font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;color:#000000;font-size:11px;padding-top:8px;padding-bottom:8px;padding-left:11px;padding-right:11px;margin-bottom:3px;} #yiv179357967 contextAdMiscText { font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;color:#000000;font-size:11px;padding-left:11px;padding-right:11px;} This page was sent to you by: [email protected] OPINION | March 07, 2011 Op-Ed Columnist: Degrees and Dollars By PAUL KRUGMAN The hollow promise of good jobs for highly educated workers.
