Not sure I get your point Ed. I'm a little dense this morning.

Back in the 1970s, I worked with a major inquiry into a pipeline that was supposed to bring oil from the Beaufort Sea region south. Many of the people that made presentations to the Inquiry were northern Dene who, we were told, spoke languages similar to those of the Navajo and Apache (the Dine). On reading up on it, I found that the Navajo and Apache were once northern Dene. About a thousand years ago they migrated south to their present homelands. I recall a Navajo teacher giving a talk on Dene (or Dine) languages to northern Dene people in Yellowknife. Many words used by the sourtherners were similar to the word used by northerners, though meanings were a little different. In the north, a word that sounded like "neep" meant dog, whereas in the south it meant "horse". In both places it meant a beast of some kind of burden. I believe I've posted something on this before, but I thought I'd say it again.
