After reading one of Carol Brouillet's statements in FW Subject "economics,
sense of values, perception of truth" (Fri, 28 Dec 2001 09:37:42 -0500)
that "our forests are being destroyed" ("The Feminist Perspective" written
for The Other Economic Summit, June '97), FutureWork readers might care to
be reassured that the situation is improving since then. The temperate forests of North America, Europe and Russia have been expanding for the last 40 years. (William P. Cunningham and Barbara W. Saigo, "Environmental Science: A Global Concern", Wm C. Brown 1997) No doubt they have continued to do so since 1997. The tropical forests, based on accurate satellite imagery, were declining in area by 0.46% p.a. in 2000, down from 0.8% p.a. in the 80s and 0.7% in the 70s.
