1. Relief: the decision was made.
2. Trepidation: fear of failure
3. maybe resolve.

I absolutely think that George W. Bush felt some relief and maybe even some
satisfaction that the 9/11 bombings on the WTC and Pentagon "changed
everything" - you could read it in his face - because in a superficial
mind, one that sees things in black/white absolutes, the tiring arguments
and the energy required to convince others of your vision and sell a
leadership plan became less demanding as the whole world rallied around the
US. That self-confidence and lack of humility may have lasted too long, as
we see events unfolding now, with plans to widen what were Wish List
strategies in US foreign policy for years.

Conducting government and foreign policy is not like running a business, as
surely as even he must have learned by now. You don't build a strategy for
war like you do a business plan with an objective. The stockholders in this
case have a bigger vested interest and an override, eventually. If he would
spend his gym time every day studying history and foreign policy, we might
actually see something positive come about, namely less reliance on old men
who carry preconceptions from earlier times.

Again, did Man make History, or does History make Men?

I recently saw a program on THe History Channel which
described how pleased Winston Churchill was with the sinking
of the Lusitania, because he believed that
the loss of American lives would
motivate Americans to want to fight against Germany.

Different day, same sh-t.

(And I personally would rather spend it in Bletchley Park(sp?)
than on Midway or Omaha Beach. Speaking of which, what
*did* Sir Winston sacrifice for the war?)
