[snip] > Of course, the Florida nonsense is a bit of a red herring, I think it was more like a canary in a coal mine. Need I repost again Supreme Court Justice Scalia's apologia pro Dubya vita(sp?)?

Gore blew it badly, for several reasons (which I would > suggest are: failure to treat Clinton honorably; failure to have confidence > in himself; too respectful a treatment of Bush). He lost it, rather than > Bush won it. I think you are "close": Gore blew it badly. Failure to honor dishonorable but well-meaning and publicly popular (at least with Democrats...) Clinton. Failure to project self-certainty which the voters expect even if a reflective person knows it's bullsh-t. Too much of a gentleman and a scholar for this world, both in particular and in general. Of course, Gore may also be a wimp, but that's moot (please, Justice Scalia, correct me if I have not used this legal term correctly). I once heard Gore on NPR explain that even going to Yale and Oxford could not give Clinton the "background" he did not get in his upbringing. This is dead right -- i.e., it's right but it's the kind of thing that to say it kills a politician. > > And now...who will the Democrats nominate??? Kerry, as I understand him > today, would get my vote. I am not hopeful. I nominate Al Sharpton.
