Pretty much anything written by Simon is great, though without Garfunkel, I fear the performance is no better than good.
Whether or not I like theory isn't the issue. I do think that scientific method is a tool we use to understand what's going on. Also, that the progression from hypothesis to Law is as good as it presently gets.
Shotter is indeed constricted by what his readers (listeners) expect from him. However, when this leads to a critique of meager substance, followed by no more than speculation about a replacement for the object of criticism - all couched in academic obfuscation, I don't accept it gracefully.
But, then, perhaps I'm just not able to appreciate what Shotter is saying. If that is so, I'm not entirely unhappy about it. I just think that language should convey meaning.
