In response to my post on the changing nature of work Brian Mc Andrews wrote: One huge thing I would add that paves the way for this attitude towards work is school. Schoolwork, homework, assignments; all the crap that I hated when I was a kid and still hate now.

Not surprisingly, we are hugely influenced by what we are told as we are growing up.  And our schools continue to tell us about a world of work which was last really applicable in the 1970's (at the latest).  Since most school teachers have gone straight from school as a student to school as a teacher they don't know any better.

This is why I spend so much of my time in schools in Australia.

But until we (and the participants on this list are a great starting place) develop a model for a new world of work which is saleable and demonstrable, our schools will continue to ill-prepare our youngsters.
