Since the terrible row at the beginning of the week between President Chirac and Prime Minister Tony Blair, Chirac's body language has been interesting, too, at an important meeting of European Union countries in Brussels yesterday. Normally generously expressive in talk and manner, and despite Tony Blair's desperate attempt to shake hands with him and say he was sorry for calling him "poisonous", Chirac refused to face or speak to Tony Blair yesterday and forgetfully didn't notice him as he strode by, no doubt distracted by seeing someone else on the other side of the room or perhaps deeply cogitating on French affairs of State.
When journalists pressed British Foreign Office officials afterwards to say whether Chirac and Blair had repaired their relationship, they were told that "Blair and Chirac had been in close proximity". Aren't they precious, these politicians?
