I believe that CNN or MSNBC ran video footage of the torture "chamber".
When I saw the footage it didn't look as bad as the text describing. There
was footage of the meat hook and the ID cards belonging to "desaparacedos"

I red the bit, then noticed the "torture chamber" story on the CNN page.

Now it was an unnamed BBC reporter who wrote about the torture chamber -
actually it was a Daily Mirror reporter under his byline who broke it. It
also became an anonymous person who talked about the horror, rather than
the named Iraqi in the Mirror story. All this in a couple of days.

An ancient story about passing a message along goes back to the first world
war.

The message "Send reinforcements. We are going to advance" passed from
person to person on its way to headquarters.

It arrived as "Send three and four pence. We're going to a dance".

I wonder where the torture chamber story will pop up next?

Harry
