Ray,
To me, you have the effect of being patronising and intimidatory. I think you have probably driven scores, if not hundreds of people away from this list over the years. Well, you've driven me away now. Don't bother to write to me because I will delete you and will continue to do so until I have indirect evidence that you have learned some degree of moderation and courtesy.
I think that there should be fairly wide leeway for persons to "put their foot in their mouth" on a forum such as this.
I do it, and I'm not proud of it, but I think it's better than "repressing" thoughts and feelings. Hopefully, I learn (and others find some value in most of what I write...).
It is a rare person who "bats 1000" in saying only things that are both (1) illuminating, and (2) offend no-one, *and* who steps up to the plate and swings at the ball every game!
Of course there need to be "limits", but I think the boundary should probably be somewhere near where a participant is disrupting others' use of the forum and, after examination of the situation and trying to see what's going on, concluding that the person is sincerely trying to be disruptive. I think that, in most cases, it should not be too hard to get the persons to leave voluntarily a place where they do not need to be and do not want to be.
