For the record Bob Hope was not my cup of tea. Slapstick boring humour.
But a great friend of the establishment and a great supporter of US troops, no matter what they were up to. arthur -----Original Message----- From: Salvador Snchez [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, July 30, 2003 6:25 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Fw: [Futurework] Curious? Thank you, Ray. Of course, Roberto Esperanza = Bob Hope. His kind of humor was one of my best examples of how culturally determined humor is. I remember, when I was a kid, my whole family watching a show or a film with Bob Hope in TV and (seriously) trying to figure out what was funny about what this man was saying and doing. Through the years, I have seen his work several times but I could never really connect with him. Perhaps he is more american than universal, because I can perfectly enjoy and laugh with Woody Allen, or Laurel & Hardy's films. Anyway, I understand he is a cultural hero, an icon. Regards. The court jester Bob > Hope. We know that because he made so much money at it and "wealth equals > value" in America. I loved Bob Hope. Someone said yesterday that he was > great because he was a "clean" jester. That person never heard the TV > program with Jane Russell that he got fined $10,000 for saying that he would > like to play "Radio" with her. When she asked how you play "Radio" he > said that he would like to "play with her dials while his antennae rose." > Red Skelton got away with such things but the "sagely" Hope with his Nixon > nose just got "kicked around" for saying such a thing. But he took it all > in the spirit of Hope. > REH _______________________________________________ Futurework mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://scribe.uwaterloo.ca/mailman/listinfo/futurework _______________________________________________ Futurework mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://scribe.uwaterloo.ca/mailman/listinfo/futurework
