I won't fix it, because I will probably never use it. Still, you can't blame distros for not setting up environment because of some specific functionality. That's like blaming slackware for not providing UI wrappers for making a samba share. FVWM-Crystal is known for providing actually ready-to-use environment (and some distros aren't), so it should work same way everywhere. Also, making simple wrapper for less isn't that hard... Also, what's more important -- you shouldn't assume that everyone uses less as a pager. Use $PAGER to get proper utility (if not set, then you can use whatever you want) -- and make an entry in the docs.
