The mentioned function "." may do any math (arithmetics, abs, exp, hex,
int, log, rand, sin, sqrt) and string processing (regexps, repetition,
concatenation, split, join, substr, index, sprintf, lc, uc, reverse).
Do you need anything else?
To get help list of functions: "man perlfunc", to get help on a function
by its name: "perldoc -f cos".
