Hi,
is there any known issue with fvwm and multiple X servers?
I occasionally need to start a 2nd X session with a different X
configuration.
First, on startup something obviously gets stuck on a server grab,
which I have to clear with Ctrl-Alt-Divide to be able to continue.
Afterwards, everything looks pretty much alright, except that in fvwm
most mouse operations (move/resize windows ...) don't work (Actually,
it seems like those operations that have keyboard bindings also can't
be initiated by keyboard). The desktop menus work with some minor
peculiarities (normally, the binding for the right button doesn't care
whether I click or drag the mouse, but in this context only click will
work). Application programs seem to do fine.
Actually, I don't know what exactly the trigger is, but it is not
really the fact that there is a 2nd X session - When I shut down
the first session and start it again while the 2nd session is still
running, it will work perfectly normal.
There used to be a problem with sharing PS/2 mice between
applications, but this doesn't seem to be an issue any more - when I
start gpm before the X server, still everything is alright. Anything
else that can move the core pointer (USB mice ...) also show the same
problems.
Actually, years ago I often used fvwm in a similar setup without any
problems.
Any ideas?
Regards,
Peter Daum
P.S.: The whole thing takes place on Linux 2.6.17 with Xorg 6.8.2
(Xinerama, Xinput ...) and fvwm 2.5.15.
