Just another follow up on this thread, I see this gnome bugzilla: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=467776 The interesting thing about it is that there is a small test program attached to it which does indeed reproduce the problem for me, so perhaps this could get easier to track down.
