Unfortunately, I don't know what rule, I do not have administrative access to
the machine and the owners seem content to say that it's not a FW-1 problem.
They did say that they weren't even logging a connection to the machine. The
fw-1 box is not our gateway, it's simply the proxy machine we use to connect to
ftp/telnet outside of our intranet. i.e. we are using it to telnet outside of
our network, however to do this we need to supply a fw login and password which
I never make it to because the machine drops the connection immediately after
getting connected (/etc/issue is shown so the connection is initially
established which is verified by a tcpdump on the AIX client, then the Sun box
closes the connection, also shown by tcpdump from the AIX client.) Again, I'm
just looking to see if this has occurred with other FW-1 setups and if someone
else has encountered a problem between an AIX machine and a Sun System running
FW-1 for telnet proxy.

I really appreciate your help. Thanks!

Aaron

Aaron,

Sorry for the long wait between emails.

What rule drops the connection? I assume that the fw-1 box is your gateway. Are
you trying to talk to the fw or thru it? I'm not clear on the setup.
