I've converted pretty hard-core to the Gmail webclient. The search function on the webclient is amazing. I've tried using Thunderbird and evolution with imap accounts (both Gmail and a email server my brother ran) and the searches were painfully slow. BTW, I have stopped classifying email now. I put all old email in the "archive" and find it later by searches. I realized, after listening to a lugradio about email clients, that I was frequently doing a search in my email folders anyways, so my classifying old emails was a waste of time. In any case, fast searches really are key to how I use email. So Thunderbird and evolution (and any other imap client, I suspect) are going to be at a serious disadvantage compared to a webclient that has indexed the old email.
Cheers, --Christer p.s. Really? Outlook? There must be a better way to have access to the calendars on Exchange... ________________________________________ From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Nicholas Smith [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, November 18, 2008 8:09 AM To: Fort Wayne Linux Users Group Subject: Re: [fwlug] Mail clients I like Thunderbird for personal use. I haven't spent the time to get it to work on a Microsoft Exchange Server at work though. I hear it is capable, but I haven't figured it out. -Nick > Date: Mon, 17 Nov 2008 22:50:23 -0500 > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > To: [email protected] > Subject: [fwlug] Mail clients > > With the elections I'm thirsting for senseless violence driven by mere > differences in opinion....
