Jon, I have a copy of Partition Magic that requires a running machine, which was not accessible on a non-functioning Windows machine, but the one on the bootable CD works fine to identify and move partitions to new hard drives. Also I used the also included Memtest86+ to show that memory would fail if two or more memory slots were filled (I know I could have downloaded a diskette for this, but why bother). I did finally discover that by ignoring MSoft's suggestions of running CHKDSK I could finally get the machine up with 256megs of memory, but running extremely slowly, apparently first because of only 256 memory, and second because of only one of the dual channel memory slots was filled.
The above 266MHZ AMD machine is being replaced by an Intel dual core 2.53GHZ, 3Mbyte Cache machine with 4Gigs of memory (in anticipation of W-7 for my wife) and with a 500GIG SATA drive and the 120GIG IDE drive from the old machine.
