Nobody I've talked to knows what Linux is. But I've not met any
particularly computer-savvy folks. I *do* know that qq.com, one of the
biggest ISPs, provides software only for Windows, so Apple users are
out of luck.

But iPhones and iPads are still all the rage.

I did find out that iPads cost about twice as much here, even through
here's where they're made; I'm guessing demand-side pressure is at
work.

As expected, it's too difficult to explain the concept of an operating
system to people who do not share a language with me.

The best I could do was to try to equate how the software on the
iPod/Phone/Pads is to the software on the MacBooks, what Android (and
although they don't seem to recognize that name, they recognize my
phone) is to the software running on my laptop.

I'll leave education to the locals. ;-)
