Hi everyone,

Happy Holidays to All! I hope you all are having a great holiday.

For my part, I've been enjoying Lake County, and have hooked up with a
newly created LUG hosted at the College of Lake County, which has been fun.
I'm planning on being at the Indiana Linux Fest this spring to give my
Python for Linux tutorial, and we at Zoro Tools are thinking of sponsoring
there, as we did OLF. So I hope to reconnect with some of you there.

On the matter of hosting and domains, I haven't heard what you want to do,
but I'm moving things so some decisions need to be made. I have 2 domains
for the LUG - fortwaynelug.org and fortwaynelinux.com. The .org domain
won't expire until 2013, while the .com (which just points to the .org
version) will expire in February. Due to GoDaddy's support of SOPA I'm
moving things away from them now. Part of that move means that I'm
consolidating most of my hosting to either Nearlyfreespeech.net or
webfaction.com, and frankly, I don't have the time or inclination to
migrate the LUG site. So some options come to mind...

For the domains:
1. I transfer the domains to someone with a Godaddy account (Canterbury has
one) or other registrar account and that person takes it from there..
2. I just let them both die...
3. I let the fortwaynelinux.com domain just lapse and move the
fortwaynelug.org over to nearlyfreespeech.net and we have a year to figure
out who takes over the domain...

If I don't hear something in the next week or so, I'm inclined to lean
towards option 3, although I would think that option 1 is the best.

For the hosting, I'll be keeping that account open through February, but
that's really a hard deadline, because I won't have any other sites on that
service by then and another hosting bill comes due. So we can...

1. Just let the site die when I cancel my account with that provider...
2. Someone can take the site over - I'll be happy to give that person the
login info to grab all of the content, or I can provide a tarball of the
entire site, if you prefer...
3. Some one can create a new site, we can leave the old content behind and
just move forward...

Or whatever else you can think of... While I don't need a final answer on
all of it in the next week, I would sort of like to know about the domains
pretty soon, so I can finish my transfers. In particular, if the LUG or
anyone else wants the fortwaynelinux.com domain, let me know, since it
expires in early Feb. I'd ask the domain decision be public on this list,
so that the entire group is OK with who's taking over.

So think about it (maybe at a business meeting this coming Thursday? ;) )
and let me know what you think. I'd hate to see things die, but it just
doesn't seem appropriate for me to be maintaining this from a distance.

Cheers,
Vern
