Not in  my very experienced opinion.

There is no need to remove the logic board on ANY iBook to replace the  
most commonly failing part - the optical drive,  The cable runs on the  
12in are FAR more complex than the G4 iBook and nether G3 has any at  
all.

Clamshells are easy, G3 iBooks once your done four or five are fine ...
