Hi. A mate of mine was going to chuck a troublesome iBook G3 500mhz in the bin until I told him I'd have it. I'm picking it up on Friday.
He says the screen keeps going dark randomly and it over heats. It doesn't seem to suffer from the GPU problem like most early iBooks. What are your thoughts? The screen could just be an inverter board or a split screen cable. The heat might just be normal, they do get hot and it is a low end iBook so has to work harder. My wife had an iBook G3 800mhz and it got warm, I had a PowerBook G4 400mhz and it used to burn my legs through jeans, but that was normal. It's free, so it's worth looking at.
