I have quite a few Macs. My Mini 1.58 G4 and my G5 dual-2.3 can't boot from USB. My clamshell iBook 366 and my iceBook 500 CAN boot from USB, although it's problematic. Startup Disk from OS X WON'T work for USB booting. Startup Disk from OS 9 WILL work for USB booting. The Option key selection will SOMETIMES offer the USB drive. Often I need to try over & over again before getting a successful boot. USB 1.0 is SLOW, a last resort. I'd sure like to be able to boot my USB 2.0 Mini & G5 via USB. I think there may be a way to use Open Firmware commands to boot these, but it's difficult, and I've never done it. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to Low End Mac's G-Books list, a group for those using G3 iBooks and PowerBooks (we run a separate list for G4 'Books).
