Hi,Regarding the Pismo upgrade of a DVD option, (and selectively summarising
the opinions expressed:
1. One piece of advice was "The site states, that it is set in the firmware
to "cable select/slave". The drives in the Pismo all had a switch to select
master mode".
2. Another mentioned "Setting the jumper correctly is a different matter. If
you set it to "cable select" you may be right, it quite possibly wouldn't
boot since the cable in the Pismo doesn't support "cable select" setting.
You'd need to set the unit to "master" before installing it".
3. Yet another wrote "the problem is, that the most recent drives do not
support the selection of master or slave. They do not have the jumper
anymore. A very few may have a firmware, that preferably selects master at
startup. But if they do not have a jumper and there is no special firmware,
you might find yourself with a non-bootable drive".

>From my experience it is important to check that the DVD drive you buy for a
Pismo is set to Master. I purchased a UJ-810B drive which I thought would
work since other Panasonic models did. However, not only is it NOT bootable,
but it will not accept any CD or DVD put into it. It immediately spits them
out the side. I believe that is because the drive is set to Slave and would
need the jumper soldered to change it to Master for it to work.
