I don't have my pismo in front of me, but there was a little freeware app for 
OS9 that forced the software to run the battery down all the way without the 
shutdown.  This should be good for that calibration as well.  Sorry I don't 
have the name, but someone might know what I am talking about...

New batteries need to be calibrated. charge it all the way up, then  
use it on the battery alone until it shuts down past the sleep  
warning, then charge it all the way back up.

If it still behaves like this after the calibration steps, then the  
battery is likely faulty. (When I got the NewerTech extended life  
battery for my Pismo, the first one I got was bad, OWC exchanged it  
for another and, after calibrating, gave me several hours of battery  
life.
