You don't mention the iBook's processor, but from the way you describe
it, it sounds like it's probably a G3.  According to Apple's specs for
iLife 08, it isn't going to run on such an iBook.
Here's what Apple says are the minimum requirements for iLife 08:
(from <http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1010>)

"Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 processor"

iMovie & iDVD have even more restrictive requirements regarding clock speed.

Word 04 should work OK on a G3, though how well would depend on clock
speed and how much RAM you have installed.
