There are four different models of PowerBook G4 (1.67 GHz), all with
Airport Extreme card (802.11g):

If your Airport Extreme "server" is the recent Airport Extreme Base
Station with 802.11n (Gigabit Etherenet), then a 802.11n adapter will
be a much better match.  I have a similar combination with an iBook
G4, instead of a PowerBook G4.  A NewerTech USB 802.11n/g/b adapter
from OWC works very well:
