The size of email attachments allowed is determined by the mail server  
of the account. Gmail says 10MB, I think AOL is 16MB, other ISPs vary,  
I think Cox is 5MB.

You could theoretically split a file into small parts, RAR (.rar) is a  
favorite format for splitting large files into many small parts. RAR  
has the advantage that missing parts can be reconstructed from the  
others similar the the way a RAID array can recover the data of a lost  
HD. 2GB would be 200+ 10MB files to mail individually, not a  
reasonable idea.

There are many easier ways to share a large files, you can do it  
within OS X, or by ftp. Some files sharing sites accept large uploads,  
but normally only with a paid account. One of the simplest might be to  
use the new Opera 10.0 beta browser with the "Unite" file sharing and
