yep listen up. your HD is gonna die soon if not a couple of months then a few weeks. im on a powerbook g4 with a new 160 GB HD, 2 GB ram and mac os x 10.5.7 leopard. im a bit of a mac expert myself so you need to boot it and listen to the hard drive. powerpc (powerbooks, iBooks) hard drives are usually in the middle or top left or right corners of the laptop. if you here a faint grinding noise then that will confirm that you are screwed. i also recommend finding these install disks and then running disk utility. then select the HD. if the name of the drive in the list is red then your HD is dying. also, click on it and see if it has a thing called a S.M.A.R.T status. that will tell you more. ONE LAST THING!! ITS NOT YOUR FAULT ITS APPLES. when apple were still on the side of the powerpc's before they went intel, they bought HD's from hitatchi and placed them in iBooks and PowerBooks. these drives would only last two years because they all had an internal fault. the original 60GB HD drive that came with my laptop died a few weeks after i had bought it. i was really ********* off about it but thats what happened. so take this advice plz. if you need anymore then please feel free to ask. i am very good in solving pretty much any case of an apple.
