Well, first if you haven't done it already you try Ctrl + Apple + power button. If that doesn't work, sorry but you need to cut power--personally, I just hold the power button down until the computer shuts down (this works for Windows PCs, too, and probably any personal computer for that matter, come to think of it). In either case, once you have restarted you can then try to reset the RAM as has been suggested.
