Normal 10-BaseT (which is twisted pair.) via a hub or switch is the  
easiest.

You can use a crossover cable and connect them directly, but sometimes  
with older Macs this makes 'em kind of fiddly about actually starting  
the ethernet port; they don't see the voltage they normally do and so  
think they're not connected.
