After checking out www.openpandora.org (where a new, open-source handheld is in the works, just about to go into mass production), I was struck with an idea: With the right people and a pre-order plan, wouldn't it be possible to front the costs of building a new motherboard to fit the Pismo? The motherboard would be entirely funded by private investments and pre- orders. The OpenPandora apparently has enough finances to pass through FCC testing… couldn't a new motherboard do the same? Of course, just for Pismos wouldn't be enough. Clamshells, Wallstreets, etc, would benefit from the same plan (can you imagine—an Intel Core 2 Duo Clamshell with high res, 256 MB of VRAM and DVD +RW?). The question is, would anyone want to do this? And then, would anyone buy these new logic boards?
