Well, those were quick answers to my second question! I wonder how
many Pismos are still circulating out there… does anyone know where to
find the total production numbers for the PowerBook G3? I think the
Pismo went through a six-month production run, so that's got to be
more than a few hundred of them. A few thousand might be a better
estimate, but I'm not sure.
I'm pretty sure the demand for new Pismo (and Wally and PDQ and
Lombard and Clamshell, etc) motherboards is there—these are some of
the most endearing laptops ever made, and their only drawback is their
lack of modernity. I don't think anyone could get Apple going along
with this plan (unless they themselves had a hefty cut of the
profits), so the odds of the new board being "officially" supported by
Snow Leopard are pretty slim. But, then again, we don't really stick
to convention (like the rule that you have to buy a new laptop every
few years)!
Does anyone know someone who could design one of these things
(theoretically, at least)?
