Hmmm. Does the card "show up" as an icon on the desktop when  
inserted? Any card inserted in the slot should show up even though it  
can not be used.

If so, then the Airport software may not be installed (check the  
Applications/Utilities folder).

I understand about wanting the machine to run on the max system,  
without a "hack." Mine is more a part of an accumulation (100+) than  
a collection, but...
