What I need to download?
Some of the Java updates require the earlier versions to be installed
first. Since you don't know what's been installed already, I think
that using Software Update is the best idea. It may need to run
several times if you're missing several Java updates.
or is it possible to link the emac and ibook with firewire or
ethernet, share the emac connection to upgrade the ibook?
Yes. This is what you'll want to do.
In the eMac, go into the System Preferences>Sharing and in the
"Internet" tab select Share from "(your internet 3g card)" (or
whatever internet connection you're using) and then select which port
you're sharing to (built-in ethernet or Firewire), and then hit the
"Start" button.
Then connect the iBook to the eMac using whichever cable you've
decided to use (ethernet or Firewire). It should give you a connection
automatically on the iBook, but if it doesn't, upon the System
Preferences>Network to see what it shows, perhaps your ethernet or IP
over Firewire wasn't setup or recognized? It should work, and you can
test the connection by opening any browser and seeing if you have
connection. As soon as connection is established thru the eMac, run
Software Update on the iBook as many times as necessary to get the
message "Your Software is Up-to-Date" and then try your 3g card
application again.
