Excellent info, Bruce and Dan. Many thanks. I'm grasping how this works much more clearly now.
Dan - that Mifi thing is the way we're going now. So glad you posted that. I went back to Verizon's site and read about it - then called their sales dept on the phone. Turns out the stuff they list on the site as possible contracts vs pre-paid accounts online isn't telling the whole story clearly. I'm wrong (thankfully!) about the $350 fee if breaking the contract early, too. The deal is this: The $59.99 price is available as a month-to-month, no contract deal; a 1 yr contract, or a 2 yr contract. The mifi device costs $49 (after rebate) if you buy the 2 yr contract; $119 after rebate for 1 yr contract; $269 with no contract. If you break contract early, say on the 2 yr deal, you are then charged the difference for the price of the Mifi device, or $175, less $5 a month for every month you've had service. They aren't "cheating" a person as much as I initially thought. I could live with this. There is a $35 activation fee for any account, however. We're going to look at it more closely yet - but I think this is the route we'll go. We could even go on vacation, or travel on a weekend, and take our broadband/wifi with us! How cool is that? I would NOT have grasped any of this had you not all chimed in - so thank you very much. My only remaining question is - with the mifi in place, am I good to connect with only my existing Belkin Wireless G+ card? And that usb modem that Bruce mentioned in another post - would that also allow us to connect another computer (mac or - otherwise -) to the wifi? I think it will - but I want to make sure I understand. -- You received this message because you are a member of G-Books, a group for those using G3 iBooks and PowerBooks (we run a separate list for G4 'Books).
