Just took a bare-bones iBook apart to look at the top case. Yes, it can be 
done, but you'll have to destroy 4 plastic rivet heads that hold the clicker 
assembly to the top case. It'll take some creative plastic melting to replace 
those rivets. Once the rivet heads are gone, disconnect the ribbon cable from 
the touch pad and remove the subassembly. Reverse to install. Good luck!
