Known, typical issue. The CCFL bulb that drives the backlight is worn out. The 
LCD bulb will either need to be changed, or the screen replaced. The former is 
pretty intensive and requires soldering skills; the latter is a little easier. 
Both should really be done by a technician unless you have the required skills.
