Hello-
I've had this problem for a while, and lately I see it mentioned in Google
(although mostly with respect to people using Windows computers). My iTunes
skips during playback, sometimes just half a beat, but yesterday it began
skipping repeatedly, as if I wereplaying a disk with a scratch.
I have a Pismo, and it has )SX 10.39 and whatever iTunes (not the latest, but I
think a recent version) it has had for years. I have about 9 gigs of songs
loaded into it, and I have a 1 year old 80 gig HD. I use the laptop for
nothing else, except playback of songs.I was taking it to parties, for music,
but I don't do that anymore because the skipor the split second delay in the
beat of a song.. it's annoying. RAM is about 784 or something.. not quite 1
gig. It gets warm underneath, so I elevate it. This used to help.
Other DJ's in this small Mexican town all say that their iTunes skips also;
they just shrug.I have better luck with one of my white iBook G3's, for music
playing. The processorsare slightly larger (600 vs the 400 on the Pismo), but
they both have the cracked motherboard and a big fat coin jammed inside the
lower casing, in a strategic place, tokeep them going. They both have 10.4.11
operating systems)
I went through replacement of the Pismo motherboard, sound card, PMU charger
board, and HD last year (and this year, the screen) for various other reasons,
so I don't know what part is left to replace. I am wary of "new" versions of
iTunes.
Q: Has Apple addressed this? And what good is the Pismo, if I can't even play
songs on it? I mean, it never dies, but then again, it never does much alive,
either. (except I have a lot of iPhotos stored). The HD is 4/5 empty. I
haven't 'repaired disk permissions' lately; and the 'beachball' rarely happens
when I play iTunes(unless I insert a disk, then, oh god--)
(I suppose I could upgrade to 10.4.11..? if that would help any.. but that
upgrade still costs a bundle through Apple... unless I wipe everything clean
with CCC or SuperDuper)
I just want to play music during work.
Oh well- thanks!steve
