I may have fixed (slightly) the iTunes skipping and stuttering on the Pismo by 
shutting down all special preferences (crossfade, sound enhancer, sound 
improvement or something,and 'search for (honestly I can't remember) " and 
de-selecting any movie-playing optionsand reduce the radio stream (why not?) 
speed..   immediately the sound level went up,and I got an hour out of the 
thing without a skip or a stutter (of course it was cooler yesterday). In hot 
weather thee problem is of course worse.
I have not yet bothered with any Quicktime settings. 
These things were already suggested (for iTunes 7) in other forums, but they 
seem to be a temporary fix. Which is good enough for now...
