<swoooooosh> That was the sound of the topic zooming right over your head. TravelStar == IBM/Hitachi's line of 2.5" HDD's designed for laptops, and what the OP asked about DeskStar == IBM/Hitachi's line of 3.5" HDD's designed for desktops. Different critters and more to the point, the 'DeathStar' line of 3.5" drives that were plagued with problems was IBM's first 40 gb series, which was ages ago in computer years. In answer to the original OP's question, I've not had any worse luck with the Travelstar drives than any other. Drives fail, and there's not really a standout for high failure rates in the 2.5" realm in my experience (which includes a LOT of laptops over the years Mac and PC, and drives from pretty much all the big names: WD, Seagate, Toshiba, Samsung, Hitachi and probably other's I'm forgetting now) -- Bruce Johnson University of Arizona College of Pharmacy Information Technology Group Institutions do not have opinions, merely customs -- You received this message because you are a member of G-Books, a group for those using G3 iBooks and PowerBooks (we run a separate list for G4 'Books).
